After it was previously reported Michael Brantley would head to Toronto, he’s actually decided to stay with Houston instead.

What a crazy day it’s been with news revolving around left fielder Michael Brantley. First, it was reported that he had agreed to a multi-year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, officially leaving Houston to join the AL East squad.

However, things changed and the deal wasn’t actually agreed upon. Now, MLB insider Bob Nightengale has dropped some major news, as he’s stating that Brantley and the Houston Astros have agreed to a deal to keep him at Minute Maid Park.

Michael Brantley won’t be leaving the Houston Astros after all

If you’re an Astros fan and you’re doing jumping jacks right now, we don’t blame you. Countless supporters were devastated to see Brantley leaving for Toronto. It was bad enough to see the reports earlier this week that George Springer would be leaving for Canada, but Brantley too?

Fortunately for the Houston front office, they’ve been able to keep Brantley in town with a new two-year, $32 million deal. Now 33 years old, Brantley is getting ready for his 13th MLB season, and third with the Astros.

He joined the team in 2019, heading to the All-Star Game that year. He finished that campaign with 22 homers and 90 RBI. In the shortened 2020 season, he belted five dingers and added 22 RBI.

Now, Brantley will look to return to his All-Star ways this upcoming season, especially with Springer’s big bat now out of the lineup. With Houston’s sluggers and its outstanding pitching staff, this team will once again be favored to win the AL West and go on a serious postseason run.

Let’s see if Brantley and the other guys in the clubhouse can lead them to a World Series berth next fall.
