Dodgers: Walker Buehler taught Brusdar Graterol a new pitch

Dodgers prospect Brusdar Graterol got even better this offseason.

Graterol was passed up by the Boston Red Sox, who instead preferred Alex Verdugo and Jeter Downs in the Mookie Betts trade. It’s a risk that may come back to haunt Boston, as Graterol has looked excellent in his first taste of action in Dodger blue.

The young reliever could eventually step into the closer role for Kenley Jansen, and at the very least will form a formidable back end of the bullpen with the likes of Julio Urias in the near future.

Graterol is only beginning to discover his potential on the mound. Thankfully, LA has Walker Buehler to help him along.

For those unfamiliar with Spanish, that’s Graterol saying that Buehler taught him a new pitch. While he has yet to master it, the idea that Graterol could have another weapon in his arsenal is both terrifying and exciting for Dodgers fans at the same time.

What role will Brusdar Graterol play for the Dodgers this season?

Assuming he makes the major league roster (safe assumption), Graterol will look to build upon his shortened 2020 campaign, in which he played a major role in covering up the Dodgers bullpen woes.

Graterol made 23 appearances last season, and had a 3.09 ERA paired with 13 strikeouts. Over the course of a full 162-game season, the opportunities are endless.
