Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu hit the first grand slam of the 2021 season.

Abreu was the American League MVP for a reason, and he’s being tasked with making up for the absence of Eloy Jimenez early on in the 2021 campaign. In just the second game of the season, Abreu mashed a grand slam against the Los Angeles Angels to give Chicago a 5-0 lead (at the time).

Abreu hit .317 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 2020. While that was merely a 60-game campaign, Abreu has enough of a track record to expect that production to carry over into 2021.

Much is expected from the Chicago White Sox in 2021

The White Sox entered the season as AL Central favorites this season, and then some. Tim Anderson even says they should be World Series favorites, though that might be overkill.

Without Jimenez, some of the hype around the Sox has decreased, though that doesn’t change the fact they made several high-profile offseason additions and has a top prospect in Andrew Vaughn on the way.

Abreu is just on part of a perennial American League contender in the making.
