Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna really did this “basic” celebration after hitting a home run against the Chicago Cubs. Say cheese!
Marcell Ozuna did it before and he does it again.
In the bottom of the first inning against the Chicago Cubs, Ozuna homered on a fly ball to left-center field, putting the Atlanta Braves up in front. To celebrate, Ozuna took a quick pause down the first-base line and pantomimed the “selfie” motion, snapping a pretend picture of his victorious face and the cheering crowds behind him in Truist Park.
Fans of his will remember he did the exact same thing last year: in the bottom of the eight of the Braves’ 5-0 win against the Cincinnati Reds, Ozuna crushed a fastball into the left-field seats. As he trotted across the bases, he yet again took a mental picture of the moment.
Marcell Ozuna couldn’t resist taking a ‘selfie’ after his homer
The closest thing that compares to Ozuna’s celebration dates back four years ago when Seattle Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz got a photograph with umpire Joe West in the sixth inning of an All-Star Game. Still, Ozuna’s home run celebration has to take the cake for sass, cheekiness, and pomp, and it seems like he’ll be doing this for a while.
Ozuna all but ended Cincinnati’s postseason hopes back then, and he’s now starting the game against the Cubs strong. This marks his second homer of the season and is his 20th homer in his two seasons so far for Atlanta.
Forget bat flips – selfies are the cool way to celebrate these days. Whether you like Ozuna or not, you have to respect that he’s got his own sense of iconic style.
