San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. turned hero in the ninth inning against the Houston Astros with a game-tying three-run homer.
Fernando Tatis Jr. wasn’t content with just one highlight from the Padres game against the Astros on Saturday.
Serving as the designated hitter in Houston, Tatis Jr. did exactly what the team depends on him to do: He made the play when San Diego needed him most.
Tatis Jr. came to the play with the Padres trailing 6-3 in the top of the ninth. It was the perfect time for him to step up with runners on third and second. He didn’t waste his opportunity.
The blast went 448 feet and tied the game 6-6.
It hadn’t been a particularly productive outing for Tatis Jr. before that moment. He had struck out three times before, though he drove in a run while grounding out to second in the sixth. His most memorable play was doing the splits to avoid being hit by a pitch.
