Oakland Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt has been hit by a line drive against the Chicago White Sox. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

The Oakland Athletics were looking to get back in the win column after dropping their previous two games, including on Monday night against the Chicago White Sox. On Tuesday night, however, the end result of the game was secondary, as the health of starting pitcher Chris Bassitt was much more important.

In the bottom of the second inning, Bassitt threw a pitch to White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin. After Goodwin made contact, the ball struck the right-handed pitcher in the side of the head.

Bassitt collapsed to the ground in a hurry, holding his face after it made solid contact with the baseball. After being looked over by team trainers, Bassitt was carted off the field while holding a towel to his face. Burch Smith entered the game to take over for Bassitt.

Following the injury to the Athletics starting pitcher, the White Sox’s official Twitter account sent their thoughts to the player and the team.

We will continue to keep you updated on Bassitt’s status once additional details are provided by the team. We at FanSided send our thoughts and prayers to Bassitt, his family and the Athletics at this time.
