When is the last time the White Sox won the AL Central?

The Chicago White Sox have an opportunity to clinch a division title for the first time in over a decade. 

The Chicago White Sox have been having a special season on the South Side and that season may come to a celebratory landmark today. They currently lead the Cleveland Indians 7-1 in the third inning. If they hold on to this lead, the White Sox will win their first AL Central title since 2008.

Led by Tim Anderson, the young core got things started early knowing the circumstances of this game.

Chicago White Sox rebuild paying off

After winning the AL Central and going to the playoffs in 2008, the White Sox entered into a dark rebuilding period missing out on the playoffs the next 11 seasons. The results of the rebuild became evident in a condescended 60-game 2020  season when the White Sox emerged as one of the best young teams.

They lost the division race to the Minnesota Twins but broke the franchise’s playoff drought in an expanded postseason. They were, however, eliminated in the first round by the Oakland Athletics.

Now established, the White Sox returned this season and completed dominated the AL Central, entering Thursday’s game leading the division by 10.5 games.

The second-place team is the Cleveland Indians, the team they’re playing today in a doubleheader. If this lead holds, The White Sox and their fans won’t care about the result of the second game.

They will be too busy celebrating an AL Central championship.
