Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. revealed why he prefers to give his interviews in Spanish.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. played a huge role in the Toronto Blue Jays being in contention for a Wild Card berth in the American League entering the final week of the regular season. He is considered one of the favorites to win the AL MVP award this offseason for a reason.
During an interview with Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital, Guerrero explained that while he does speak English, he prefers to give his interviews in Spanish. The reasoning behind it comes from an interview he did in English back in 2019, where media reported that Guerrero said he had “never done a gym.” The thing is, Guerrero actually said that he “did not do a gym in the offseason.”
Since that incident, Guerrero says that is the reason why he gives his interviews in Spanish — so that nothing is taken out of context. You can listen to Guerrero’s interview in the link above.

In this very same interview, Guerrero spoke about him being a candidate for the AL MVP alongside Los Angeles Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani and the fact that he is in contention for the Triple Crown. The first baseman said that none of those things are important to him. Why is that? Guerrero is more focused on helping the Blue Jays clinch a postseason berth for the second-consecutive season.
Entering Tuesday night’s game against the New York Yankees, Guerrero is slashing .314/.404/.599 while recording 46 home runs, 105 RBI and 183 hits through 156 games.
For those of you who were wondering why he talks to the media in Spanish, it is because he wants to make sure that his words are not taken out of context.
