Giants fans at Oracle Park took their frustrations too far by throwing beer cans at the umpires after a blown call ended the NLDS against the Dodgers.

Things got ugly in Game 5 of the NLDS as the Dodgers beat the Giants at Oracle Park.

The controversy surrounded the final call of the game. The first base umpire ruled Wilmer Flores went through on his checked swing, resulting in the third strike and the third out to end the game in the bottom of the ninth.

Needless to say, fans were outraged over what plainly looked like a bad call.

Giants fans crossed a line by throwing beer cans at umps

It was perfectly understandable for fans to be upset. It was a terrible way to end the series. Baseball fans across the board deserved better.

What wasn’t okay was seeing fans cross a line by throwing beer cans at the umpires as they walked off the field.

There are no circumstances where throwing beer cans, soda cans or any other projectile at a baseball game is okay. It doesn’t matter how angry or drunk you are. It doesn’t matter how bad the call was. It doesn’t matter if it cost your team their season. It is always unacceptable.

Thankfully, no one was hit or hurt, but they could have been.

Fans need to do better, whether they’re interacting with each other, the players or the umpires. That kind of stuff can’t be allowed to happen.
