It appears as if the New York Mets are narrowing down their search to find a new manager. It looks like they’ve found three candidates for the job.

The New York Mets are finally getting closer to hiring a new manager. The search that has seemingly lasted forever finally has three finalists for the job.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Joe Espada, Buck Showalter, and Matt Quatraro are the three finalists for the opening with the Mets.

That’s not a bad list, all things considered.

The 46-year-old Espada is the youngest of the group, but he’s got over a decade of experience with coaching at the MLB level. From the Marlins to the Yankees and now currently with the Astros, Espada has gained some valuable experience over the years.

Showalter is by far the most experienced of the bunch as the 65-year-old from DeFuniak Springs, Florida has been a manager for four different MLB teams with him getting his start as a manager back in 1992. Showalter was most recently with the Baltimore Orioles from 2010 to 2018.

Quatraro has been on the rise as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays coaching staff. The 48-year-old has been with Tampa Bay since 2018 and has been part of the effort to develop the Rays into a dangerous team. Prior to that, he spent a few seasons in Cleveland.

New York Mets: 3 finalists apparently emerge for manager

It looks like the Mets are finally getting closer to hiring a new manager. The whole situation has been an odd one dating back to the very brief run Carlos Beltran had as manager. The Mets ended up splitting up with Beltran due to his connection to the Astros and their sign stealing scandal, so they moved on and ended up promoting Luis Rojas.

Rojas served the Mets as their manager during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, compiling a 103-119 overall record. When the Mets decided to move on from Rojas, he ended up heading across town to help coach the New York Yankees.

And now the Mets are finally trying to find someone to lead them going forward. With Showalter, Espada, and Quatraro, it seems like they’ve got a few good candidates. We’ll see who gets hired and if he’ll pan out.
