The Chicago Cubs are going to look like a completely different team next season and fans still aren’t over all the changes.
For countless Chicago Cubs supporters, the 2016 World Series run feels like it was 100 years ago. There’s been some major changes with the roster, with so many of those guys from the title-winning club no longer at Wrigley Field.
This includes fan-favorite standouts Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber. With Opening Day on April 7 inching closer and closer, where will all four studs be suiting up to start the 2022 campaign?
What happened to the Cubs 2016 core?
Starting off with Kris Bryant, the standout third baseman made plenty of headlines earlier this week, signing a monster contract with the Colorado Rockies worth $182 million. The Rockies broke the bank for Bryant.
With Rizzo, the first baseman closed out the end of the 2021 campaign with the New York Yankees, which was wild to see for so many people in the Windy City. Rizzo will never be forgotten by the Chicago faithful, as he’s known around down for being a standup dude. He re-signed with the Yankees this offseason.
In the AL Central, the Tigers made a monster splash by signing Baez to his six-year, $140 million contract. This was an impressive payday for ‘El Mago’ and certainly deserved. Baez is without question one of the best shortstops out there.
Last but not least, slugger Schwarber inked a four-year, $79 million contract with the Phillies earlier this week. Schwarber made his way from Chicago to Boston last campaign, drilling some huge homers for the AL East side. Now, he’ll look to keep things rocking with Philly.
